About this route
The Via Ferrata Zelenica on Spodnji plot, set above the Zelenica hut, is short but carries the reputation of being the hardest via ferrata in Slovenia. Built in 2015 by the Tržič alpine society, it climbs a roughly 90 m vertical wall and is Y-shaped: after a common lower section, a short D wall gives way to mostly A/B ground, then it splits into a moderate left 'instructional' branch around B–C and a right 'sport' branch graded E, the most demanding in the country. That right branch is purely athletic, very exposed with drops of well over a hundred metres, and reserved for strong, experienced climbers; no rungs are fitted beyond the steel cable, so natural cracks and holds must be used. Access is surprisingly easy: the Zelenica hut is the base and the entry lies only about fifteen minutes above it. Helmet, harness, a via ferrata set and proper boots are mandatory, with climbing shoes and a short rope advisable on the E line.
