About this route
Via ferrata Fortica is a short, rewarding route rising directly above the coastal town of Omiš to the 15th-century Fortica (Starigrad) fortress, built by locals to defend against Ottoman and pirate raids. Rated B and around 533 m long with only about 40 m of vertical, it stays easy and beginner-friendly, though its second half feels more exposed and a few flat, wide ledges are left without cable. The short walk-in from town takes roughly fifteen minutes, and the whole climb is well under an hour. Throughout, it opens up sweeping views over the sea, the rooftops of Omiš and the Cetina canyon. With strong sun exposure and no huts en route, it pays to start early on hot days and carry plenty of water.
