About this route
The Variant K5 of the Via Ferrata de Charmey is the expert line known as Plein Vide I, leading up the Dent de Vounetse and rated D, the hardest tier of this multi-route site. Around 660 metres long with some 160 metres of height gain, it runs almost entirely through overhanging rock where the sense of emptiness is constant, demanding excellent forearm endurance, a short lanyard and solid via ferrata experience. The approach from the Vounetz cableway takes roughly fifteen to thirty minutes along white arrows, and the route itself two to four hours. Reserved for the strong and seasoned, it is widely considered one of the toughest via ferratas in Switzerland.
