About this route
Via Ferrata Flores y Lagunas de Arbas sits on the Peña del Castillo within the Alto Bernesga Biosphere Reserve, reached from the village of Cubillas de Arbas. The main line is graded around C/D and stays approachable at first, with the difficulty building steadily and a few sharper variants that throw in overhangs. It covers roughly 500 metres with about 150 metres of vertical gain and takes around two hours, with comfortable signed access and a descent of similar length, so it makes a balanced half-day. Importantly, the route requires free authorisation requested from the local junta vecinal at least 24 hours ahead, with a cap of 50 people per day, and it is closed in frost, snow, rain or storms. Escape routes in the harder zones add a margin of safety, making it a rewarding pick for climbers with a little ferrata experience.
