About this route
Tri Kopy is a chain-secured high-mountain ridge in the Západné Tatry, often filed under grade B though it is really an exposed Alpine traverse rather than a true via ferrata. Stretching about 2 km across the rocky triple summit of the main Roháče crest at roughly 2136 m, it gains around 595 m and takes near 100 minutes of moving time, with a long approach of several hours from Zuberec and the Pod Spálenou car park. The chains here serve mainly as handholds rather than belay points, so no ferrata set is carried and sure feet and a steady head for heights matter far more. The passage over Tri Kopy is counted the hardest part of the classic Roháče traverse and turns treacherous in wind or rain, so a settled day is essential. It suits experienced mountain walkers who can string it together with neighbouring peaks and pause at the Roháčske plesá on the way.
