About this route
Torrent de Pareis on Mallorca is not a classic via ferrata at all, but a demanding descent through the second-largest gorge in the Mediterranean, in the Serra de Tramuntana. The route runs around seven kilometres and is best tackled top-down, from the roadside on the Ma-10 between Escorca and Lluc all the way to the sea at the bay of Sa Calobra. You follow cairns and occasional marks down the streambed, encountering scrambling and climbing passages where a spare 15-metre rope is handy for the odd rappel. Heavy rain or storms make entering the gorge absolutely out of the question because of the flash-flood danger. An adventure for the boldly inclined who don't mind a long, at times exposed, journey through a wild canyon.
