About this route
Schoberstein (gesicherter Steig) is barely a via ferrata at all, but rather a secured hike graded A that gains around 560 m to a 1,037 m summit above Weißenbach am Attersee. The climbing element is minimal, with the actual rock step rising only a few metres, and the route feels far more like a trail with a short, airy wire-rope traverse below the Großer Schoberstein than technical climbing. It begins from the car park by the bridge to the Nixenfall waterfall and is most often used as the descent from the Attersee Klettersteig, though it works perfectly well on its own. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are all that is really required, making it a good choice for hikers wanting an easy way down or a gentle outing.
