About this route
The Schobersteig is a rewarding panoramic route in the Salzkammergut, graded an easy A and about 425 m long, with a famous view over seven lakes. It is best done as a circuit over the Frauenkopf summit at 1303 m rather than returning the same way, descending south-west and through forest back to the start at Ansitz Wartenfels. The approach takes around 20 minutes, the medieval Wartenfels ruins lie nearby, and a small shelter with a table and bench sits just below the top. Its low elevation makes it a fine early- or late-season tour for anyone who loves big views without serious technical demands.
