About this route
Pot mojstranških veveric, or 'The Path of the Mojstrana Squirrels', is a sporty via ferrata that climbs steeply above the village of Mojstrana at the mouth of the Vrata valley, with the Julian Alps and the Karawanks on view. Rated around C, it packs 180 vertical metres into roughly 250 metres of route and around an hour of climbing, finishing near Grančišče at a miniature replica of the Aljaž tower. The approach is a brief ten minutes from the car park at the Slovenian Alpine Museum, where you pay the parking fee and can hire gear. This is decidedly not a beginner's outing: it is exposed and demands prior experience and a fair bit of strength, so a via ferrata set and helmet are essential, and you should verify the current status as closures have been reported.
