About this route
La Pita - Tramo 3 Los Portillos is the hardest section of the La Pita complex near Villanueva del Trabuco, reaching grade C/D over a hundred metres. The line follows a crack in the rock where you must hunt for handholds and footholds again and again, with the lifeline running above your head until a ledge with a short, slightly overhanging vertical step. Its centrepiece is a Tibetan suspension bridge whose hand cables are separated from the lifeline, after which the steps spread apart and force strong leg flexion. Just a couple of minutes from the car, it is climbed in about half an hour but offers no escape once committed. It makes a fitting climax for stronger climbers after the easier sections of La Pita.
