About this route

La Mulatica is a markedly athletic, sport-focused via ferrata graded D at the foothills of the Sierra de Javalambre near Andilla, climbing rough red rodeno sandstone that stands out against the surrounding limestone. Some 150 m of vertical gain on staples keeps the line steep and exposed throughout, broken roughly midway by an airy hanging bridge over a deep drop. The short approach from the Fuente del Señor trailhead takes only about five minutes; the descent is longer, around a quarter of an hour, and runs unmarked through burnt woodland where route-finding can be tricky. With no bail-out once you start, it rewards committed climbers who enjoy continuous vertical work, while the north-facing wall keeps it bearable even in summer.

Highlights

  • Rugged red sandstone walls
  • Exposed hanging bridge
  • Sustained vertical climbing
