About this route
The Klettersteig Leogang Süd is a long, very airy high-alpine route graded D, running up the steep wall of the Mitterspitze in the Leoganger Steinberge. At around 1,300 metres it is well secured and not extreme technically, but the sustained steepness and strong exposure will challenge anyone prone to vertigo. The approach is a serious undertaking in itself, climbing via the Passauer Hütte toward the Hochtor over roughly two and a half hours before the ferrata itself begins. With its commanding panoramas and demanding setting, it rewards fit, experienced climbers who enjoy exposed terrain; the descent leads back along a secured path to the Passauer Hütte.
