About this route
Klettersteig Kandersteg - Allmenalp is one of Switzerland's most spectacular via ferratas, a graded-D line that climbs the whole way alongside a waterfall which splits into two arms partway up. Across smooth, piton-studded slabs and vertical walls it strings together metal and wooden ladders, a remarkable 360-degree rotating ladder, a Nepal bridge over the cascade and two ziplines across the water, taking around three hours from the 15-minute approach near the Allmenbahn cable car. The rock stays wet, the exposure is serious and a harder variant raises the stakes further, so this is no place for beginners or anyone uneasy with heights. Those who reach the top can reward themselves at the alpine restaurant with its homemade cheese.
