About this route
The Kellenspitze Klettersteig is a demanding summit route graded D that leads up the south face to the highest point of the Tannheimer Berge, the Köllenspitze at 2238 m. With roughly 1100 m of route and about two and a half hours of climbing, plus a long approach of similar length from the valley, it is a full alpine undertaking reserved for experienced and fit ferratists. The line is mostly in the upper grade range with the odd easier A and B section, and the real sting comes on the alpine descent, which is partly exposed, brittle and demands sustained concentration. The reward for the effort is a standout summit and sweeping views across the surrounding Tannheim peaks; it should only be attempted in settled weather.
