About this route
The Katrin Klettersteig is an easygoing route on the Katrin above Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut, rewarded with a sweeping panorama of the surrounding lakes. Most of its roughly 150 metres stay at grade B, with the entry plate touching B/C, so it suits beginners while still offering airy edge climbing all the way to the large summit cross at about 1,322 metres. The most comfortable approach uses the Katrin Seilbahn, followed by a descent down the ski slope and a traverse of around half an hour through the forest; reckon on roughly an hour for the climb itself. Without the cable car the outing turns into a physically demanding day up the slope, so the lift is well worth taking. Standard via ferrata gear and a helmet are all you need.
