About this route
Höhenweg-Klettersteig, better known as the Ewige Wand, is a short but extremely exposed klettersteig high above Bad Goisern in the Totes Gebirge, and a long-standing local classic. Despite a moderate technical grade of C, the airy start over foot pegs beneath overhangs and a vertical to slightly overhanging wall makes it psychologically demanding rather than physically hard. The approach runs from the Rathlucken Hütte along a marked trail and through the rock-cut Höhenweg, with the entry just before one of the tunnels; from the top there are fine views toward the Dachstein. Best suited to ferratists wanting to test their head for heights, it combines well with neighbouring routes and is closed each spring for nesting peregrine falcons.
