About this route
The Hans Kammerlander Klettersteig is an extremely demanding via ferrata graded E, running 600 metres up a roughly 300-metre wall near Ahornach above Sand in Taufers in South Tyrol. Opened in August 2022 and named after the renowned extreme mountaineer born in the village, it throws everything at you: an overhanging start, a hanging ladder, an exposed tree-trunk traverse over a giant overhang, and suspended rope bridges that cannot be avoided. Most of the route holds at D and C with a couple of short E sections, and it takes around two and a half to three hours of climbing, so it demands strong arms, real fitness and steady nerves. The wall bakes in the afternoon sun and gets very hot in summer, best left to May through September. This is strictly a route for experienced, hardened climbers.
