About this route
Geiler Hengst ranks among Austria's toughest via ferratas, built around concentrated stretches of grade E that follow one after another with little real chance to rest. The route runs roughly 280 metres and the climbing itself takes about an hour and a half, while the approach from the car park near Oberlauss is short, only fifteen minutes. A rope bridge with a fine outlook adds welcome variety to the climbing. The descent, by contrast, is easy on a secured A/B path, and a sign points clearly toward 'Abstieg' from the top by the rock window. Given its extreme physical demands, this line is strictly for experienced, very fit climbers.
