About this route
The Ferrata Pierangelo Maurizio climbs to Punta della Croce on the limestone massif of Monte Alben and splits into two markedly different parts. The opening section is easy and generously equipped, while the second half turns steeper and more exposed, though staples run its full length so that a determined climber can manage the D grade. Roughly 1000 metres of route take around two hours, and the approach from the closed hotel at Conca dell'Alben, down the ski slope, is quick at about twenty minutes. The line tops out on an exposed ridge, from which you can carry on to the summit of Punta della Croce or further toward Monte Alben. Unusually for an Italian ferrata it has a declared winter closure, which should be factored into any plan; named after alpinist Pierangelo Maurizio, who died on Everest in 2007, it was inaugurated in 2013.
