About this route
Ferrata Norte del Cid is widely regarded as one of the finest and most aerial via ferratas in the province of Alicante, and indeed one of the oldest in all of Spain. Rated around C/D, it is a genuinely mixed line: some stretches use the familiar iron rungs, but for long passages you must climb on natural rock holds with only the safety cable to back you up. The equipped section runs roughly 450 metres and takes about an hour and three quarters, with a 30-minute approach and a descent of close to an hour down the PR-CV 36 path. The route finishes just below the summit of Silla del Cid at 1152 m, where the views are spectacular. With its length, exposure and demand for real climbing, it suits fit, experienced ferratists rather than newcomers.
