About this route
The Ferrata del centenario CAO al monte Grona, the Como section's centenary route, is a long and genuinely demanding grade D line that leads to the summit of Monte Grona at 1,736 metres above Lago di Como. The climbing follows a series of rock towers that are hard to tell apart once you are on them, with protection set rather far apart and several exposed, overhanging passages on rock of variable quality. The walk-in from the woodland parking at Monti di Breglia passes Rifugio Menaggio before the cable begins. Facing south, the route can be tackled even in winter under good conditions. The reward is a superb panorama over Lago di Como and Lago di Lugano out to the Grigne and the Orobie, making it a fitting objective for experienced, fit climbers.
