About this route
The Via Ferrata Cesare Piazzetta is one of the most demanding lines in the Sella group, climbing the southern walls of the massif to the summit of Piz Boè at 3,152 metres. It earns its grade D right from the start: a near-vertical, polished wall with minimal natural holds where you rely on the fixed gear and clean footwork, followed by a wobbly iron ladder, a very tight chimney best tackled with the pack removed, and an airy suspension bridge. Around 320 metres of secured climbing alternate with stretches of open scree, and the upper third eases off toward the top. The approach from Passo Pordoi past the Ossario war memorial takes about an hour, while the long descent can involve abseiling on a rope through a couloir where snow lingers well into summer. It is firmly a route for strong, experienced climbers who relish both technical climbing and high-mountain scenery.
