About this route
Ferrata Bertona climbs the rock face of Montebello di Bertona on the Pescara side of the Gran Sasso massif, inside the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. Graded D, it covers around 250 m of cable with roughly 100 m of elevation gain and takes about an hour and a half overall, yet the approach is almost nonexistent at barely five minutes from the parking. Abundant metal rungs keep the technical difficulty modest, but the opening section demands real arm strength and the airy traverse along the 'dente' pinnacle feels surprisingly exposed. A short three-metre two-cable bridge adds spice along the way. With its instant access and sporty character, it is an ideal pick for confident climbers who want a workout without a long walk-in.
