About this route
Ferata Hvadnik leads through a wild stream gorge at Gozd Martuljek in the Slovenian Julian Alps, an easygoing route graded C that, taken with care, is also enjoyed by families. About 500 m long with some 250 m of vertical gain, it climbs steeply at first over boulders in the bed of the Hladnik stream before following the protected line, with bridges and exposed passages over the water. Although most of the rock is wet, it reportedly hardly slips anywhere, and the cool gorge makes pleasant relief in summer heat. A roughly 10-minute approach and a 30-minute descent bookend the climb, and the panorama of Špik is the scenic reward; note the route is closed from late autumn through to spring.
