About this route
Ferata Huda luknja is a one-of-a-kind via ferrata in Slovenia that threads through a cave and its flooded water tunnel rather than up an open cliff. Graded D and around 900 metres long, it can take up to four hours, with barely five minutes of approach and exit on either side, so almost the whole day is spent underground on the cable. Expect darkness, confined spaces, constant damp and mud, with sections where you crawl through the muck or skirt the water. Beyond the standard via ferrata kit you need a caving overall, a rest cord, long-finger gloves, sturdy rubber-soled boots and a headlamp, and entry is only allowed with a guide from the local caving association.
