About this route
The Elfer Nordwand Klettersteig is one of the classic via ferratas of the Stubaital, climbing the steep north face of the Elferturm above Neustift. After a gorge crossing where a helmet is essential against rockfall, the route works up limestone walls to the notorious narrow Kaminstelle, a tight chimney on the direct line; an easier but exposed bypass sidesteps the hardest moves. Graded around C overall (with that direct chimney pitch reaching D/E), it climbs roughly 750 m to the 2505 m summit and is reached via the Elfer cable car and a short walk to the Elferhütte. Best in summer, it rewards fit climbers comfortable on exposed rock, and pairs naturally with the Elferkofel traverse next door.
