About this route
Charlotte is the hardest of the via ferratas on the spectacular Riegersburg castle rock, holding a constant grade D–E with an extreme E/F variant known as the Gallerin-Dach roof. Around 190 m long and climbing some 150 m, it is a top-level outing that demands serious arm strength throughout. The route runs below the easier Leopold Klettersteig up to the castle tavern, with the approach taking about ten minutes and the descent only a little more. A one-way rule applies and castle admission must be paid, since the line sits on the historic fortress rock that lends the whole climb its unique atmosphere. Opened in September 2024, it is reserved strictly for experienced ferratists chasing a peak power challenge with an unforgettable backdrop.
