About this route
Brustwandsteig is a short practice via ferrata in Austria, with an easy approach and a layout aimed squarely at beginners and children. Graded up to C, it offers two options: one that stays entirely at grade A, and another that combines B and C sections, so each climber can pick a line that matches their level. The whole route is only about 120 metres and takes roughly twenty minutes, reached on a comfortable forest path from the large car park at the Almgasthof Kleefeld, passing a game enclosure on the way. The gentle A variant can also be used to climb down, or the ferrata can simply be bypassed on the left. It makes an ideal spot for a first taste of the safety cable and for practising technique in a forgiving setting.
