About this route
The Britannia Klettersteig is the newest via ferrata in the Saas Valley, a high-alpine route around 3130 m that delivers a sweeping panorama over the Allalin and Mattmark regions. Graded C/D (K3 to K4), it offers some 900 m of climbing where the first challenge comes immediately, working up rock and individual aids to an easier traverse. The biggest commitment is the glacier approach of roughly four hours from the Britanniahütte, and the blue-and-white descent recrosses the Hohlaub glacier back to the hut. Crampons are needed for the ice, and given the length and altitude the day demands solid mountaineering skills, careful weather watching and ideally a guide for the less experienced.
