About this route
The Bergwerkskogel-Rettenkogel-Klettersteig is a long ridge crossing in the Salzkammergut that links two near-equal summits, the Bergwerkskogel (1781 m) and the Rettenkogel (1780 m), along a roughly 650-metre crest. Graded C, the ridge is mostly A/B with one harder C section and a few unsecured grade-1 climbing passages, giving an impressive and at times exposed traverse. The day is shaped above all by its length: an approach of around three hours and a descent of about two and a half frame a comparatively short hour of actual climbing. The reward is far-reaching scenery, with views down to the Wolfgangsee and Hallstättersee and across to the Schafberg and Dachstein. It suits fit climbers who enjoy long days and proper ridge lines.
