About this route
The Arlberger Klettersteig is a magnificent high-alpine ridge route in the Lechtaler Alpen, weaving across a string of rocky towers high above St. Anton am Arlberg and topping out on the Weißschrofenspitze at 2,757 metres. Graded overall D with sections from A to D, the line stretches nearly three kilometres and a full traverse takes a committing four to six hours, making this a true full-day undertaking for fit and experienced ferratists. The Galzigbahn and Vallugabahn lift the start to the ridge, so approach and descent each take only about half an hour, while the famous Haizähne, the airy secured pinnacles, and the crux at the Knappenjochspitze give the route its unmistakable character. The terrain is very exposed and is best tackled only in settled weather, though several emergency exits offer a way back to the valley. It rewards the effort with sweeping panoramas across the surrounding ranges.
